She is a resident and member of the Hudson Heights community.  As a licensed speech-language pathologist and mother of a 3-year-old, I understand the importance of seeking expert help to assist in facilitating children’s communicative abilities to achieve their potential socially and academically.  At Hudson Heights Pediatric Speech, we strive to be your partner in helping your children thrive through high-quality, individualized, and expertly designed assessments and interventions.

Rafaelina received her Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2011. She is a certified member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed to provide therapy services in New York State. Rafaelina also holds the certification of Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities with Bilingual Extension (TSSLD, BE) by the New York State Department of Education, which enables her to provide bilingual speech and language services to school age children. Additional certifications and trainings include Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASD-CS), PROMPT level 1, and Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), which are sought after intervention methodologies for the treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).

Rafaelina has worked in a variety of settings including early intervention, preschools, outpatient clinics, hospitals, and international clinical experience at the Hospital del niño in la Paz, Bolivia. She has extensive experience working with children with a variety of speech and language diagnoses including, articulation and speech impairments, motor speech disorder, specifically Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), phonological disorders, receptive and expressive language disorders, developmental language delays, and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Rafaelina understands and values the importance of treating the whole child and believes in a multidisciplinary approach; therefore, she will be eager to collaborate with and make the appropriate referrals to other related service providers.

Through her extensive training and experience in speech and language assessment and intervention and with her Bilingual Extension, Rafaelina is qualified to provide bilingual intervention to Spanish speaking children. We believe that a child’s home language should be supported and facilitated within the intervention model.
